A New Eudist for the Mission

Today, in “An Eudist on Mission,” we explore the vocational journey of candidate Jorge Luis Baquero, who shared with us his life story, his purpose, and his mission. Jorge signed his incorporation into the Congregation of Jesus and Mary on Friday, May 19, 2023.

The Encounter with God

For candidate Jorge Luis Baquero, Christian happiness can be understood in two ways: “As a gift in which the Lord, at a certain moment in life, reveals Himself to you, and we grasp this in our daily situations and experiences.” Jorge explains that his experience with God began within the Catholic Charismatic Renewal; he began studying at the Minuto de Dios School, where he discovered the testimony of Father Garcia Herreros as the foundation of the apostolic life, and through one of his stories, he was deeply moved by it, learning that there is a way to experience life and that this way could be the priesthood. Candidate Jorge Luis Baquero recounts that it was at the age of 17 that he came to know God more intimately, feeling touched and loved, which set him on an ongoing journey where he experienced happiness as a task because it involves a decision on his part: “to understand the freedom to live exclusively for the One who loved him.”

Allowing Oneself to Be Questioned

He spoke of the importance of questioning oneself and being full of questions; drawing from the testimony of his encounters with God, he said that they allowed him to remember where he came from and what he was called to do; this self-examination is important to him because he realized he had something good to offer others.

The Family, a School of Life

For Jorge, the family is a school of learning where one acquires simple actions and attitudes that foster relationships, coexistence, discussion, reconciliation, and leaving home in a spirit of faith, discovering that the Lord calls us to redefine the family and to create a new one in him and for him—a family in which we see a tradition that responds to the school of life with the Lord, to the concrete legacy of the spirituality of John Eudes, and to the desire to be prophetic voices in the midst of this world.

Simplicity, Work, and Hope

Jorge Luis comes from a very small family: his mother, his father, and himself as an only child; his relationship with his parents is very close, which is why he says, “In them, I discover the value of simplicity, the value of work, the value of giving one’s all to the very end, bearing pain with hope, empathy, and optimism.” This is what family means to Jorge: a place of memory and learning.
