The Eudist presence in Davié
A community to accompany
The quasi-parish of Saint Michael the Archangel in Davié has been entrusted to our care. It lies on the northern outskirts of Lomé, Togo’s largest city. Davié has great potential and may soon follow the path of other outlying communities, becoming a dormitory suburb of the capital. For now, Saint Michael’s is in between: more rural than urban. My Eudist confrère, Father Lazare Gbenou, and I are fully involved in serving this quasi-parish. Much remains to be built. For weekend worship, we gather in a shed with a leaky roof that serves as our church; we have no offices in which to welcome parishioners, nor a rectory. A family has offered us lodging for a year while we seek a more lasting solution. What gives us hope is that we can count on a joyful and very dynamic community. Yet it is also affected by the widespread poverty in rural areas of Togo. As a result, many lively and talented young people lack the means to complete their education. Their looks and their silence often make me reflect.
We invite you to support two important projects for our community.

Two projects for the community

Opening pathways for young people
The community’s projects focus on educating and accompanying young people: learning a trade, continuing their education, and finding places to grow in faith.
Vocational and arts training centre
Our local Church wants to focus especially on young people, offering those who cannot continue their studies a vocational and arts training centre. The Church has land for such a project but cannot fund it on its own. We appeal to all institutions able to support and accompany us in this work.
Spaces for education and spiritual guidance
On the pastoral side, we welcome people of goodwill who would help equip our parish with the basic facilities it needs: parish offices and a church building. The church is ultimately a place where the faithful, including young people, can grow through formation and spiritual guidance.
