A work of formation
The first juvenists arrived in September 1939 at the Saint-Jean-Eudes Classical Externat. The Externat oversaw their studies and daily arrangements, while the juvenate director and his assistants guided their religious life and discipline. The institution never had a building of its own. Spiritual formation went hand in hand with cultural, sports, and recreational activities. In 1965, the young men moved to the former Sacré-Cœur Seminary in Charlesbourg and continued their studies at the Externat. Calendars, rules, schedules, and the publications Le Reflet and Nouvelles document their daily lives. The parents’ team archives also shed light on the families’ role in vocational discernment.
